Work continues on the demolition of the former Elkhart High School on Franklin Street. Crews hope to salvage the stone sign and columns, city officials said. The former school, replaced decades ago by the district, was annexed to the newer county courts building, which also will be demolished after the county completed construction of the Elkhart County Courthouse at U.S. 33 and Reliance Road in Goshen. City officials have said they plan to seek private development of the block in downtown Elkhart. The work for this phase of the operation is being done by masonry restoration company RestoreWorks, located in Chicago and Northwest Indiana; Work continues on the demolition of the former Elkhart High School on Franklin Street.
